Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer
Steve Phelps is the Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), a position he assumed in February 2006. Steve oversees all NASCAR efforts in partnership marketing, industry marketing, brand/consumer marketing, business development, public relations, diversity and government affairs. Steve is based at NASCAR headquarters in Daytona Beach, FL, and reports to Chairman/CEO Brain France. Phelps joined NASCAR as Vice President of Corporate Marketing in July 2005. Prior to joining NASCAR he was Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Wasserman Media Group. In that role, he managed internal and third-party sales, led a team that brought exposure to athletes, teams and products, and provided consulting services to a variety of clients. From 1990 to 2004, Phelps was with the National Football League. As Vice President, Corporate Marketing, he brought many new sponsors to the NFL, managed key sponsor accounts, and instituted a philosophy focused on developing mutually beneficial partnerships. Phelps began his career in brand management at American Home Products. He later went on to work with Guinness Import Company as a Brand Manager. Steve has twice been named to Sports Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” list of influential executives in sports. A native of Vermont, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Vermont and an MBA from Boston College. He and his wife Dina have four children: daughters Maddie and Katherine; and sons Jack and Ryan. Steve is a member of the New York City Chapter Board of the National Sports Marketing Network (NSMN).
