About the Author:
Betsy Berns,
Founder and President of BVision Sportsmedia, L.P,
has dedicated her professional career to making sports
more accessible to women. Berns is the author of Win,
Place and Show: A Female Fan Guide to Thoroughbred
Racing, The
Female Fan Guide to Pro Football and The
Female Fan Guide to Motorsports.
Berns has served as a consultant to the National
Football League, for which she developed, designed
and implemented their Football 101 instructional
series for women, which is now offered by the league
in every NFL market. Additionally, Berns
has worked with corporate sponsors to reach sports'
female fan base. She originated and executed a nationwide
search for football's ultimate female fan sponsored
by Procter & Gamble, Norwegian Cruise
Lines and CBS SportsLine.
She also worked with Seagram's Wine Coolers to develop
a point of purchase promotion surrounding her football
book, which was rolled out nationally in 1998.
Berns is a frequent contributor to and guest on national
and regional radio, television and internet programs
and has appeared on over 300 radio stations and TV
networks including The Today Show, MSNBC, Lifetime,
ESPN Sportscenter, EXTRA, ABC World News Tonight, Fox
News Channel and Comedy Central.
She has written for, or been featured in, publications
including USA Today, Variety, San Jose
Mercury, Your Company Magazine and Sport
Magazine.
Berns owns and operates her website www.femalefan.com where
she posts a weekly "watercooler chat" that highlights
the week's sporting events. She also writes a for www.ivillage.com/femalefan.com.
Most recently, Berns worked with the National
Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA),
the Daily Racing Form, and TVG
network to develop and implement a search
for the Ultimate Female Fan of Thoroughbred
Horse Racing. She also worked with
Chi Chi Salsa in connection with Super Bowl XXXVII
on a series of radio spots which she wrote and voiced
advertising her book.
Berns has an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School
of Management of Northwestern University, and a bachelor's
degree from Claremont McKenna College.
